AMO MoisturePlus: Learn About the Link to Eye Infections, Vision Loss
Acanthamoeba keratitis, a rare but serious eye infection, has
developed in some contact lens-wearers who have used the Complete MoisturePlus
Contact Lens Solution. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discovered
the link after an investigation into the product. As a result, Advanced Medical
Optics, the manufacturer of Complete MoisturePlus, has voluntarily recalled the
solution.
The FDA warns consumers to stop using the solution and replace
any lenses or lens cases that were used with the
product:
"Acanthamoeba keratitis may lead to vision loss with some
patients requiring a corneal transplant. The infection primarily affects
otherwise healthy people who wear contact lenses."
