Pittsford, VT - Tests find elevated arsenic levels at Omya site

Pittsford, VT - Two out of seven wells tested in the
Pittsford area have been found to have arsenic levels higher than what new EPA
standards allow.
Neighbors are furious about the state of the wells and
hold Omya's calcium carbonate plant responsible. Omya claims they do not use
arsenic in any of their processes, but tests showed that the arsenic was not the
natural sort, helping locals conclude that Omya's plant may be at
fault.
Omya claims the well-water isn't a problem because it is not
drinking water, but residents fear that the chemical will seep into groundwater
and pollute a local lake.
