CELOTEX PRODUCTS
The Celotex company manufactured industrial thermal insulation products made of asbestos
April 13, 2010 – Celotex, a division of Phillip Carey Manufacturing Co., created industrial thermal insulation for pipes and boilers, primarily in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the country.
The Celotex company mined asbestos ore in Canada under one of its subsidiaries, and shipped it to the states for production.
The majority of the company’s asbestos-laden insulation products were in production from 1906 until 1973. But even today, Celotex products can still be a hazard, especially during demolition or remodeling activities in buildings built before 1973.
When asbestos-containing materials are disturbed through such activities, they release toxic asbestos fibers into the air, where they can be inhaled by on-site workers. Inhalation of airborne asbestos fibers is the most common avenue for occupational asbestos exposure.
Work-site asbestos exposure is responsible for killing thousands of workers whose trades require regular handling of thermal insulation products.
