Patients With Drug-Eluting Stents at Increased Risk for Blood Clots
says Cleveland Clinic Foundation Heart Center
A report, published on November 29th in the American Journal of
Medicine, states that there is as much as a four- to five-fold increased
risk for late thrombosis--blood clots formation--in patients with drug-coated
stents, compared to the older bare-metal version.
The Cleveland Clinic
study--a meta-analysis--included 14 studies with a total of 6,675 patients.
A growing body of evidence indicates that the drug-eluting stents
(including Taxus and Cypher), compared to the bare-metal versions, increase the
risk of blood clot formation long after they are implanted. This, in turn, could
lead to heart attacks in patients.
Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Taxus Stent cases.
