Epidural Hematoma
Epidural hematoma is typically caused by the rupture of the middle meningeal artery resulting from traumatic head injury associated with skull fracture and arterial laceration. The cause is usually traumatic, although spontaneous hemorrhage is known to occur. There is blood accumulation between the dura mater and the inner skull.
Therapy is by neurosurgically evacuating the hematoma through a burr hole or craniotomy.
