State Supreme Court rejects appeal of false arrest lawsuit

The Rhode Island Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of a former insurance executive who claimed he was falsely arrested on a charge of assaulting an undercover female state trooper.
Stanley Henshaw III, 62, was acquitted in 1993 of assaulting a female trooper who posed as a college student. The trooper was investigating allegations that Henshaw was operating a sex-for-hire ring.
Video backs Rabbi's claim of false arrest

A previously undisclosed film video by Channel 10 television shows that a rabbi was distributing orange ribbons, and seems to prove that his arrest for allegedly blocking a road was a false arrest, according to the rabbi's aides.
A court appeal based on the film will be filed in an attempt to overturn the verdict against Rabbi Rachamim Nisimi, who has almost completed serving a three-month prison sentence imposed by the court. He was arrested during a demonstration at the Shilat junction against the expulsion of Jewish residents of the Gaza and northern Samaria regions.

Leggin's suit alleges that Memorial Park District police officers did not have arresting powers outside park property. He is seeking $25,000 in compensatory and punitive damages plus legal fees.
Man sues 'rogue' cop, alleging false arrest

A man has filed suit charging that he was arrested on a false drug charge by St. Louis police officer Reginald A. Williams, who was convicted in April of making a bogus drug arrest of two other men.
Michael J. Banks says in the suit he filed Tuesday in St. Louis Circuit Court that Williams and another officer arrested him July 5, 2002, on a false drug charge and took $1,100 from him.
Joint insurance fund settles North Wildwood lawsuits

NORTH WILDWOOD - The city's insurance carrier has settled two lawsuits involving the city's Police Department. The lawsuits were settled in March and May of this year, involved claims of wrongful or false arrest stemming from incidents in September 2000 and September 2002.
According to the lawsuit, Carapucci, an off-duty police officer from Philadelphia, claimed he was walking along Walnut Avenue on Sept. 23, 2000, when police approached him. He said police told him to come to them, and Carapucci identified himself as a police officer. He continued to walk and was detained, handcuffed and arrested.
On March 3, the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund, or JIF, paid $50,000 plus legal fees and expenses of $14,092 in the case of Paul Carapucci versus North Wildwood.
Man sues Sauget for false arrest, assault

Ryan Cunningham filed an eight-count lawsuit against Sauget in St. Clair County Circuit Court June 17 accusing the small village of false imprisonment, assault and battery and excessive force.
Cunningham alleges that on July 23, 2004, after being arrested without reasonable cause he was pushed into two double doors, struck with a night stick and punched in the face by the fists of police officers.
According to Cunningham’s complaint, he suffered a broken nose, cuts, lacerations, bruises, abrasions to his face, suffered a loss of earning capacity, had to seek medical treatment, lost wages, and sustained a permanent disability and pain and suffering.
5 Sue Beaver officer for alleged brutality, false arrest

PITTSBURGH -- A Beaver County police officer is accused of brutality, false arrest and harassment in a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by five people. The suit names Officer Jeffrey Wijnen-Reims, Beaver Borough, and the Beaver police department. Each of the plaintiffs is seeking more than $75,000.
