Heparin Problems Could Be Traced back to China
An unidentified substance mimicking the drug Heparin has been found in the
blood-thinning drug, potentially connected to the adverse reactions to Heparin
this past December. Reactions to the Baxter drug have included as many as 19
deaths and 785 serious illnesses since January of last year.
The
tampering very likely occurred somewhere along the supply chain, beginning with
pig farms in China. It is still unknown as to whether the introduction of the
contaminant was accidental or intentional, though an investigation is under
way.
