KANAWHA COUNTY ASBESTOS LAWSUIT
January 11, 2010 – The widow of a West Virginia man who died from mesothelioma is suing 23 defendants in Kanawha County Courthouse for negligently exposing her husband to the asbestos materials that claimed his life. One of the defendants listed in the petition’s caption is the 3M Company.
According to The Record, West Virginia’s legal journal, the deceased is Mr. David Lee Goddard, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in March 2008 and died April 25, 2008.
Dying one month after being diagnosed with mesothelioma is not surprising to health officials who are well familiar with the aggressiveness of this asbestos-related cancer.
Due to the disease’s long latency period, mesothelioma symptoms usually do not appear in a patient until the cancer is fully developed. The only hope mesothelioma treatment holds is to help extend a patient’s life by months. A patient rarely lives more than two years after being diagnosed.
Mrs. Goddard is seeking a jury trial to resolve all issues concerning her husband’s death. Her petition recently filed in the Kanawha County Courthouse lists defendants as 3M Company and A.W. Chesterton Company, et al.
