When is it used?
The Kugel Mesh Patch is used in most cases, inconjunction with the Kugel method of hernia repair.

How does it work?
According to C.R. Bard,The Kugel Mesh Patch is inserted into the body through a single 3 - 4 cm opening. A unique patented memory-recoil ring "springs" open in the wound in the Kugel Hernia Repair. The Kugel Hernia Repair is designed for use in a tension-free surgical technique that requires only one anchoring stitch to hold the mesh in place. This results in minimal pain, and early return to activity.

What will it accomplish?
When it is not defective, the manudfacturer, C.R. Bard, said use of the Kugal Mesh Patch allows patients to return to normal activities soon after surgery. There have been many instances of patients who take little or no pain medication.

What are the risks?
According to the FDA, The "memory recoil ring" that opens the Composix® Kugel® Mesh Patch can break under the stress of placement of the large sized products in the intra-abdominal space. This can lead to bowel perforations and/or chronic intestinal fistulae (abnormal connections or passageways between the intestines and other organs).
