Personal Injury Settlements: What Happens if my Case Settles?
Once the discovery process in a personal injury case is completed, your case will either settle or go to trial.
In settlement proceedings, the the defendant and their attorneys make an offer to settle your case and you, in consultation with your attorneys, agree to the settlement figure offered by the defendant.
In some cases and jurisdictions, a judge or other representative of the court will help the parties to determine a fair outcome in the dispute to avoid the additional time and costs associated with a trial. This process is called arbitration.
