Elgin, IL - Mercury Scare Found In Northwest Suburban Home
September 25, 2006
A man from Elgin, IL discovered 10-15 pounds of
Mercury in his attic while reinsulating in preparation for Winter.
Tommy
J. Robison said he just "pulled up some boards and found some silvers beads." It
turns out the beads he discovered were toxic.
After the EPA arrived to
properly remove it, they explained that the toxic levels in his attic were ten
times the legal limit. Had Robison attempted to remove the mercury himself, he
could have contaminated the rest of his house, and even parts of the
neighborhood.
