Florida - Removing Mercury from Cars

October 17, 2006

Florida - According to EmeraldCoast.com, "The Department of Environmental Protection has announced a statewide initiative to remove mercury switches from vehicles during automotive recycling, as part of a national program approved by the Environmental Protection Agency in August."

By removing mercury-containing light switches from cars before they are crushed, the amount of dangerous mercury in the air can be reduced.

The EPA has instituted the initiative in many states across the country.
