Vermont - Mercury in air linked to power plants
October 22,2006
Despite reports from the EPA, it seems that mercury
from power plants in the midwest travels across the state of New York and lands
in Vermont, affecting the fish in local waters.
The discovery was made
locally by Eric Miller of the Ecosystems Research Group. He explained that while
mercury emissions have reduced nationally, power plants are still producing
nearly as much as always.
The state of Vermont wants the EPA to enforce
cuts in emissions from power plants.
