Versailles, Kentucky - Proposed plant raises mercury worry
October 8, 2006
Versailles, Kentucky residents are concerned about a
proposed plan to bring a fluorescent lamp manufacturing plant to the area, which
would increase mercury emissions.
The owner of the plant ensured area
residents that although there would be a slight increase, the mercury levels
would still remain within the state's safety guidelines.
Much of the
concern stems from the proposed plants' proximity to an elementary school, a
recreation center, a day-care center, and new soccer fields.
