News Bulletin

November 10, 2009 - Recent federal figures in Canada show that the number of new cases of mesothelioma, a fatal cancer linked to job-related asbestos exposure, rose 67 per cent in the past 15 years.

There is currently no cure for mesothelioma cancer, although treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation can be given in order to help stop the spread of the cancer and to alleviate its symptoms. Despite treatments, most people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma have less than two years to live.

Even though asbestos no longer goes into new Canadian buildings, its presence in old buildings still poses a risk, especially during renovation and demolition projects which can release dormant asbestos fibers into the air. Inhalation of these microscopic fibers has been linked to fatal diseases.

The American connection

Many U.S.-made products and construction materials contain asbestos, and numerous ones are responsible for incidences of mesothelioma in Canada. If you have been diagnosed with a work-related asbestos disease, you may be able to obtain compensation for your condition.

Workers in trades such as construction, railroad and shipbuilding industries are at the greatest risk for asbestos exposure.

Canadian workers are eligible for compensation . . .

Weitz & Luxenberg has protected the legal rights of workers since 1986. And in that time the firm's mesothelioma lawyers have won several billion dollars in verdicts and settlements for clients injured by occupational asbestos exposure.

If you would like more information, please complete the form on this page for a free review of your prospective mesothelioma lawsuit. Weitz & Luxenberg works on a contingency basis, so there is no cost to you until we obtain a verdict or a settlement in your favor.
