Michigan Mesothelioma Lawyer
Michigan industry once was the envy of the world. It’s factories churned out the products that helped America grow and become increasingly mobile. Workers in Michigan made goods the nation needed and wanted.
But a by-product of all that industry, a by-product neither needed nor wanted, was a troubling death rate from the horrific cancer known as mesothelioma.
Figures supplied by the Centers for Disease Control show that Michiganders annually fall prey to mesothelioma at a rate of just under 14 people for every 1 million residents.
This appears to be so because the industries of Michigan once were big makers or users of products containing asbestos.
Asbestos had use in construction and manufacturing for about the first two-thirds of the last century. According to the Centers for Disease Control, asbestos use in the U.S. peaked at 803,000 metric tons in 1973. Today that figure stands somewhere under 1,700 metric tons. The decrease represents a widespread decline in the use of asbestos in the manufacture of products, but some products continue to employ it.
That’s worrisome because asbestos has been found to be a primary cause of mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is invariably fatal. Death ordinarily comes in mere months after diagnosis. Medical scientists have not been able to unlock the mystery of how asbestos triggers mesothelioma – they know only that it does.
When mesothelioma rears its frightful head, it shatters not only the life of the victim but also the lives of the victim’s spouse, children and/or grandchildren. For, too soon gone will be the financial security of the entire family as medical bills accumulate during the course of treatment and the one with mesothelioma loses his ability – and will – to work.
If you are a Michigan resident in this tragic position, help may be waiting in the wings. A lawsuit lodged against the companies responsible for th asbestos exposure could provide financial relief. Would you like to learn more? Click here.
