News & Warnings--Glaxo May Have Shipped Inactive Paxil CR Pills
October 3, 2006 (Bloomberg.com)
Last month, GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Paxil CR, recalled the
antidepressants after learning that some of the pills may have been inactive,
lacking an active ingredient--paroxetine hydrochloride.
According to
Bloomberg.com, the drugmaker did not warn patients of the error.
The
company has been unable to establish how many of the recalled Paxil CR pills
were missing the active ingredient.
According to Bloomberg.com, a
spokesperson said Glaxo had restricted its actions, with the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration approval, because it wanted to minimize disruption in treatment
and avoid alarming patients.
