Fosamax Linked with Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

Fosamax has recently been linked with the development of Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, ONJ for short.

Osteonecrosis is the destruction (necrosis) of bone tissue, often due to an interference with the supply of blood to the bone.

Symptoms of Osteonecrosis include pain, swelling, infection of the gums, loosening of teeth, poor healing of the gums, and numbness or the feeling of heaviness in the jaw

Patients taking Fosamax are advised to avoid dental work if possible.
