The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is citing a Pike Township landfill for having buried trash outside of the permitted area, according to a report in the Beacon Journal.
The EPA released a list of eight violations against Countywide Recycling & Disposal Facility.
For the past two years, underground fires and odor problems have plagued the landfill, which takes in about half of Summit County's trash, according to the Journal.
Ohio EPA's environmental supervisor, Ed Gortner, was quoted in the Times Reporter as saying the landfill gas is "likely migrating downward through the underlying fill material ... because no liner system is present in this area."
