Texas woman files lawsuit over husband’s asbestos-related death
A woman from Texas has filed suit against seven defendant corporations on behalf of her recently deceased husband, claiming his asbestos-related disease was caused by their negligence.

October 2, 2009 - The widow of a man who died from an asbestos-related disease has filed suit in Jefferson County (Texas) District Court charging seven defendant corporations with negligently failing to test asbestos-containing products before distributing them for commerce.
The suit also states the companies continued to manufacture asbestos-containing products where her husband worked, even though they knew about the health dangers associated with occupational asbestos exposure.

During his career, her husband worked at various occupations known for exposing workers to asbestos, including laborer, furnace worker and carpenter. The suit states he was exposed to asbestos-containing products on these jobs.
The seven defendant companies include: A.O. Smith Corp., Babcock Borsig Power, CBS Corp., Cleaver Brooks, General Refractories Co., Ingersoll Rand Co. and Lockheed Martin.
The plaintiff is seeking unspecified actual and exemplary damages, costs for pre- and post judgment interest, and additional relief the court deems appropriate.

Texas asbestos deaths. Texas is ranked the No. 5 state in the nation for asbestos-related mortalities, according to a study by the EWG Action Fund, a non-profit environmental research group headquartered in Washington, D.C.
On the study’s list of the Top 100 U.S. counties recording deaths due to asbestos, Texas has the dubious distinction of contributing six counties to the list. They are: Harris County, Jefferson County, Dallas County, Bexar County, Tarrant County and Galveston County.
