Floor mat in certain Toyota cars can lead to accidents
3.8 million Toyota cars recalled due to risk of accident from floor mat
It has been reported that Toyota may be issuing a recall of 3.8 million cars because the driver's seat floor mat in the cars can cause the accelerator pedal to become stuck. In the mean time, the company is asking Toyota owners to remove the driver's side floor mat. Vehicles containing the potentially problematic floor mat include: 2007 to 2010 Camry, 2005 to 2010 Avalon, 2004 to 2009 Prius, 2005 to 2010 Tacoma. 2007 to 2010 Tundra, 2007 to 2010 ES 350, 2006 to 2010 IS 250 and 2006 to 2010 IS 350.
Earlier in September 2009, Toyota ordered dealers to inspect the floor mats in all Toyota and Lexus vehicles after a crash on August 28, 2009 near San Diego killed 4 people. According to the police, the accident may have been caused by an improperly installed floor mat. The car involved in the crash was a 2009 Lexus ES 350.
