Read below to see if you may be at risk for exposure to asbestos. Read each of the bullet points below for the primary characteristics of people who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- Those with breathing problems
- Individuals with protracted exposure to asbestos
- Anyone who thinks they have had prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of people who have worked in asbestos-related environments, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or difficulty breathing
Four specific diseases result from asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is imperative to seek a doctor's advice if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. The usual mode of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Additional tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. There are times when a doctor may speak a language that is baffling to the typical patient. Be sure to ask your doctor about your situation. If you don't completely comprehend your doctor, have him explain it in a way that you can better know your condition. All citizens who have participated in the United States Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for deadly diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as lung cancer.
If you or someone you love has developed lung cancer after being exposed to asbestos, let us help. It's never too late for a free case evaluation. The form below starts the process.
