Do you think you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and find out more about this deadly substance. Read each of the subsequent items for the primary characteristics of individuals who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- Those with breathing problems
- People with extended exposure to asbestos
- People who think they have had protracted exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of anyone who has worked in asbestos-related vocations, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no noticeable symptoms or breathing problems
Four specific diseases have been linked to asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. The main indicators of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible warning signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is necessary to seek a professional opinion if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Additional tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. There are times when a doctor may speak a language incomprehensible to the average person. You should not hesitate to ask your doctor about your status. If you don't fully understand your doctor, have him clarify so you can better know your condition. Weitz & Luxenberg believes that all those who have participated in the American Armed orces should receive the services they deserve. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases such as lung cancer.
Contact with asbestos can significantly affect your health. Weitz & Luxenberg understands this and is here to help. For a free consultation, fill out the form below.
