Information for Our Veterans

Do you need to contact Huntington Vet Center? 3135 16th Street Road, Suite 11 Huntington, WV 25701 Phone: (304) 523-8387.

Could you have been exposed to asbestos? Read the following to see if you fall under a category at risk. The following is a list of individuals at stronger chance of developing an asbestos-related disease:
  • People with breathing problems
  • Those with protracted exposure to asbestos
  • Those who think they have had extended exposure to asbestos
  • Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related environments, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no obvious signs of exposure or irregular breathing patterns

In general, there is a group of diseases that are associated with asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible symptoms of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is vital to seek a medical opinion if you imagine that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Added tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. There are times when a doctor may speak a language incomprehensible to the layman. Don't fear asking your doctor about your status. If you don't fully understand your doctor, get him to break it down so can better understand. All those who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by contact with asbestos, such as mesothelioma.

Contact with asbestos can significantly affect your health. Weitz & Luxenberg understands this and can provide assistance. For a free consultation, fill out the form below.
