Tests for asbestos exposure should be administered to people who fit the description below. These individuals are people who: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos in a limited amount of time, troubles with their respiratory system, long-term dealings with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have worked in asbestos-related fields even if the person who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms.
Four specific diseases result from asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is necessary to seek a doctor's advice if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Further tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, medical professionals may speak a language incomprehensible to the average person. Don't fear asking your medical professional about your situation. If you don't fully understand your doctor, request that he explain it in a way that you can better understand. All men and women who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for deadly diseases that are caused by contact with asbestos, such as lung cancer.
Contact with asbestos can significantly affect your health. Weitz & Luxenberg understands this and can provide assistance. For a free consultation, fill out the form below.
