Do you think that you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and learn more about this lethal substance. Many people who have been exposed to asbestos have had a "burst exposure" i.e., a very heavy concentration of asbestos for a small amount of time, unusual respiratory issues, prolonged exposure to asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have worked in asbestos-related vocations even if the the one exposed to asbestos has no noticeable symptoms.

Four specific diseases have been linked to asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The main symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the detectable warning signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is important to see a doctor if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. The usual mode of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Additional tests can include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Doctors can speak a language that can be confusing to the layman. Don't be afraid to question your physician about your status. If you don't totally understand your doctor, ask her to put it in plain words so you can better understand. All citizens who have participated in the American Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as lung cancer.

Coping with asbestos-related diseases can be demanding. Weitz & Luxenberg can help reduce some of the hardship by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to fill out the form below.
