Lauded for taking the lead in the prosecution of asbestos cases, Weitz & Luxenberg won a noteworthy consolidated trial in 1991 involving men who had worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the 1940s and 1950s.

Composed of oxygen, hydrogen, silicon, and various metals, asbestos is classified as a mineral. Its fibers are strong, flexible and flame retardant. Asbestos also insulates very well and does not break down easily. Asbestos has been used in older plastics, paper products and floor tiles. Commonly, asbestos fibers are mixed with a substance that joins them together, producing asbestos containing material, otherwise known as ACM. Countless industrial products are composed of ACM, for instance sealants, cement pipe and insulation.
