Read on to find out about who may be at risk for asbestos exposure. These individuals are people who: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for small amounts of time, troubles with their respiratory system, ongoing contact with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have dealt in asbestos-related industries even if the the one exposed to asbestos has no noticeable symptoms.
Certain illnesses have been linked to asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is essential to get tested if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Other tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, doctors speak a language incomprehensible to the layman. Don't be afraid to question your doctor about your situation. If you don't totally grasp your doctor, get him to clarify so you can better know your condition. Weitz & Luxenberg believes that all those who have participated in the U.S. Armed orces should receive the services they deserve. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases such as mesothelioma.
If you or someone you love has developed mesothelioma after exposure to asbestos, allow us to help. It's never too late for a free case evaluation. The form below begins the process.
