Could you have been exposed to asbestos? Read the following to see if you fall under a category at risk. These individuals are people who: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for small amounts of time, troubles with their respiratory system, long-term dealings with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have dealt in asbestos-related areas even if the the one exposed to asbestos has no obvious signs of exposure.
Four specific diseases are associated with asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is important to get tested if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Added tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, doctors speak a language that could be confusing to the average person. If you are confused, you can ask your doctor about your state. If you don't totally grasp your doctor, get him to put it in plain words so you can better understand. All citizens who have participated in the American Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as mesothelioma.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation regardless of when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to begin the process.
