Do you fit the description below? If so, you may want to consider getting tested for exposure to asbestos. The following is a list of those with stronger hazard of developing an asbestos-related disease:
- Individuals with breathing problems
- People with prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Individuals who think they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of people who have worked in asbestos-related trades, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no evident exposure signs or respiratory issues
Four specific diseases result from asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The main indicators of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is recommended to seek a medical opinion if you imagine that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Added tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Physicians may speak a language that could be confusing to the typical patient. Don't fear asking your medical professional about your circumstance. If you don't understand your doctor, get him to clarify so you can better understand. All men and women who have participated in the United States Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as mesothelioma.
Coping with mesothelioma can be trying. Weitz & Luxenberg can help relieve some of the distress by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to complete the form below.
