Learn more about the dangers of asbestos exposure and decide if you should be tested. General attributes of these people are those that have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos in a limited amount of time, unexplained breathing problems, ongoing contact with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have involved themselves with asbestos-related fields even if the former employee asbestos has no obvious signs of exposure.

Certain illnesses are associated with asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these warning signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is important to seek medical council if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Supplementary tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. There are times when a doctor may speak a language unclear to the typical patient. Don't be afraid to question your doctor about your health problem. If you don't fully understand your doctor, have him explain it in a way that you can better get the picture. Weitz & Luxenberg is a proponent of the idea that all those who have participated in the United States Armed orces should receive the benefits they deserve. This includes compensation for deadly diseases such as mesothelioma.

Living with lung cancer can be trying. Weitz & Luxenberg can help relieve some of the burden by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to fill out the form below.
