Do you think you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and find out more about this deadly substance. Read each of the bullet points below for the chief characteristics of those who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- People with breathing problems
- Those with protracted exposure to asbestos
- People who think they have had extended exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related trades, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or irregular breathing patterns
Certain illnesses result from asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. Some symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is a necessity to see a doctor if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Further tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Physicians may speak a language unclear to the typical patient. If you are confused, you can ask your physician about your state. If you don't totally grasp your doctor, have him clarify so you can better comprehend. All those who have participated in the United States Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as lung cancer.
Coping with lung cancer can be trying. Weitz & Luxenberg can help alleviate some of the worry by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to fill out the form below.
