Important Information for VAs

Contact information for Philadelphia Regional Office and Insurance Center is 5000 Wissahickon Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19101 Phone: (800) 827-1000.

Various people with asbestos exposure should be tested for asbestos-related diseases. These people include those that: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for short periods of time, troubles with their respiratory system, long-term dealings with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have dealt in asbestos-related areas even if the the one exposed to asbestos has no visible symptoms.

Certain illnesses have been linked to asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The main indicators of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is a necessity to seek a medical opinion if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Other tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, medical professionals may speak a language unintelligible to the typical patient. If you are confused, you can ask your physician about your health problem. If you don't fully understand your doctor, have him put it in plain words so you can better comprehend. All men and women who have participated in the American Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as lung cancer.

If you or someone you love has developed lung cancer after having contact with asbestos, we want to help. It's never too late for a free case evaluation. The form below begins the process.
