Do you fit the description below? If so, you may want to consider getting tested for exposure to asbestos. Read each of the bullet points below for the primary characteristics of individuals who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
  • People with breathing problems
  • Anyone with prolonged exposure to asbestos
  • Individuals who think they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
  • Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related environments, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no evident exposure signs or difficulty breathing

Four specific diseases are associated with asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the detectable warning signs of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is important to seek a medical opinion if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Additional tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, medical professionals may speak a language unintelligible to the layman. Be sure to ask your physician about your state. If you don't understand your doctor, get him to break it down so can better understand. All men and women who have participated in the United States Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for deadly diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as mesothelioma.

Living with lung cancer can be taxing. Weitz & Luxenberg can help relieve some of the burden by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to fill out the form below.
