Could you have been exposed to asbestos? Read the following to see if you fall under a category at risk. The following is a list of those with heightened risk of developing an asbestos-related disease:
- Anyone with breathing problems
- Individuals with extended exposure to asbestos
- Anyone who thinks they have had prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of individuals who have worked in asbestos-related environments, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or breathing problems
Four specific diseases result from asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is important to seek a doctor's advice if you feel that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Further tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, medical professionals may speak a language that is baffling to the average person. You should not hesitate to ask your doctor about your status. If you don't completely comprehend your doctor, ask her to clarify so you can better comprehend. All men and women who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by contact with asbestos, such as lung cancer.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation regardless of when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to initiate the process.
