Could you have been exposed to asbestos? Read the following to see if you fall under a category at risk. Read each of the bullet points below for the main characteristics of people who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- Individuals with breathing problems
- People with ongoing exposure to asbestos
- Those who think they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of anyone who has worked in asbestos-related environments, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or troubles with their respiratory system
Certain illnesses result from asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible warning signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is crucial to seek medical council if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. Other ways of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Supplementary tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Often, doctors speak a language puzzling to the typical patient. As a patient, you should be sure to question your medical professional about your situation. If you don't completely comprehend your doctor, request that he break it down so can better comprehend. Weitz & Luxenberg believes that all those who have participated in the U.S. Armed orces should receive the services they deserve. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases such as lung cancer.
