Do you fit the description below? If so, you may want to consider getting tested for exposure to asbestos. The following is a list of those with heightened hazard of developing an asbestos-related disease:
- Those with breathing problems
- Individuals with protracted exposure to asbestos
- People who think they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related trades, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no noticeable symptoms or respiratory issues
The following are the ailments which have been linked to asbestos exposure: Mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), lung cancer, and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is a necessity to see a doctor if you imagine that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Added tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, medical professionals may speak a language that could be confusing to the typical patient. You should not hesitate to ask your doctor about your condition. If you don't fully understand your doctor, ask her to put it in plain words so you can better know your condition. All men and women who have participated in the United States Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as lung cancer.
Coping with mesothelioma can be demanding. Weitz & Luxenberg can help reduce some of the difficulty by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to complete the form below.
