Lauded for pioneering asbestos cases, Weitz & Luxenberg won a noteworthy consolidated trial in 1991 in regards to men who had worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the 1940s and 1950s.
Weitz & Luxenberg managed 36 clients in that case and secured $75 million. Another case yielded a $64.65 million award for four asbestos plaintiffs in 1996 (NY, docket # 10893/95), and, in 2002, the firm won a $53 million decision in New York for a brake mechanic diagnosed with mesothelioma (docket No. 12658-00). Weitz & Luxenberg has recovered hundreds of millions more for its clients, many of whom formed the backbone of the triumphant Allied war effort in the second World War.
Asbestos is a mineral. It is composed of silicon, oxygen, hydrogen and other metals. Its fibers are powerful, flexible and flame retardant. Asbestos also insulates very well and will not break down easily. Other asbestos uses include older plastics, paper products and floor tiles. Sometimes, asbestos fibers are mixed with a substance that joins them together, producing asbestos containing material, otherwise known as ACM. Countless industrial products are created with ACM, for instance sealants, cement pipe and insulation.
Lots of individuals were part of the armed services and were exposed to asbestos for an extended amount of time unaware of the fact that this could one day cause the lethal disease: lung cancer.
Exposure to asbestos can significantly affect your health. Weitz & Luxenberg understands this and can provide assistance. For a free consultation, fill out the form below.
