Do you think you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and find out more about this deadly substance. Read each of the bullet points below for the cardinal characteristics of people who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
- Anyone with breathing problems
- Individuals with prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Anyone who thinks they have had protracted exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related fields, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or irregular breathing patterns
Certain illnesses are associated with asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these warning signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is important to seek a doctor's advice if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Supplementary tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. There are times when a doctor may speak a language that is perplexing to the average person. As a patient, you should be sure to question your doctor about your status. If you don't completely comprehend your doctor, ask her to put it in plain words so you can better get the picture. All men and women who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for deadly diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as mesothelioma.
If you or someone you love has developed mesothelioma after having contact with asbestos, allow us to help. It's never too late for a free case evaluation. The form below begins the process.
