Do you think you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and find out more about this deadly substance. General attributes of these people are those that have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for short periods of time, troubles with their respiratory system, prolonged exposure to asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have dealt in asbestos-related vocations even if the one who was involved with asbestos has no evident exposure signs.
Certain illnesses result from asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The most commonly known symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible symptoms of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is recommended to see a doctor if you feel that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Other tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Physicians may speak a language that is perplexing to the typical patient. Don't be afraid to question your medical professional about your state. If you don't fully understand your doctor, get him to explain it in a way that you can better understand. All citizens who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the benefits they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as mesothelioma.
If you or someone you love has developed lung cancer after having contact with asbestos, we can help. It's never too late for a free case evaluation. The form below starts the process.
