Tests for asbestos exposure should be administered to people who fit the description below. These individuals are people who: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for short periods of time, unusual respiratory issues, long-term dealings with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have been involved in asbestos-related trades even if the person who worked with asbestos has no evident exposure signs.
The following are the ailments which result from asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is imperative to get tested if you feel that you have been exposed to asbestos. The usual mode of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Extra tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Doctors sometimes speak a language unintelligible to the average person. If you are confused, you can ask your physician about your state. If you don't totally grasp your doctor, request that he put it in plain words so you can better understand. Weitz & Luxenberg supports the notion that all citizens who have participated in the United States Armed orces should receive the services they deserve. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases such as mesothelioma.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation no matter when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to initiate the process.
