Could you have been exposed to asbestos? Read the following to see if you fall under a category at risk. These people include those that: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for small amounts of time, unexplained breathing problems, long-term dealings with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have dealt in asbestos-related fields even if the person who worked with asbestos has no noticeable symptoms.
Certain illnesses have been linked to asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The main indicators of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the detectable warning signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is necessary to seek a professional opinion if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. Other ways of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Extra tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Often, doctors speak a language that is baffling to the layman. You should not hesitate to ask your medical professional about your circumstance. If you don't understand your doctor, request that he clarify so you can better know your condition. Weitz & Luxenberg is a proponent of the idea that all men and women who have participated in the United States Armed orces should receive the benefits they deserve. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases such as lung cancer.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation regardless of when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to start the process.
