Tests for asbestos exposure should be administered to people who fit the description below. These individuals are people who: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for small amounts of time, unusual respiratory issues, ongoing contact with asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have labored in asbestos-related trades even if the one who was involved with asbestos has no visible symptoms.
The following are the ailments which have been linked to asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The most commonly known symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these symptoms of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is recommended to seek a doctor's advice if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Further tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, doctors speak a language unintelligible to the layman. Be sure to ask your medical professional about your situation. If you don't understand your doctor, ask her to clarify so you can better get the picture. Weitz & Luxenberg is a proponent of the idea that all men and women who have participated in the American Armed orces should receive the benefits they deserve. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases such as mesothelioma.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation no matter when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to start the process.
