Do you think you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and find out more about this deadly substance. The following is a list of people at increased hazard of developing an asbestos-related disease:
- Individuals with breathing problems
- Individuals with prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Those who think they have had prolonged exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of individuals who have worked in asbestos-related vocations, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no obvious signs of exposure or difficulty breathing
The following are the ailments which result from asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is recommended to seek medical council if you believe that you have been exposed to asbestos. Other ways of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Extra tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. At times, doctors speak a language puzzling to the average person. You should not hesitate to ask your physician about your situation. If you don't understand your doctor, request that he clarify so you can better understand. All those who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for life-threatening diseases that are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as lung cancer.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation no matter when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to begin the process.
