Do you fit the description below? If so, you may want to consider getting tested for exposure to asbestos. These individuals are people who: have had contact with asbestos through a "burst exposure" i.e. a very heavy concentration of asbestos for small amounts of time, unusual respiratory issues, prolonged exposure to asbestos, or friends or relatives of people who have worked in asbestos-related fields even if the person who worked with asbestos has no noticeable symptoms.
Four specific diseases have been linked to asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. Certain specific signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is important to seek a professional opinion if you presume that you have been exposed to asbestos. One form of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Extra tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Physicians may speak a language that could be confusing to the average person. Don't be afraid to question your medical professional about your state. If you don't fully understand your doctor, ask her to explain it in a way that you can better know your condition. Weitz & Luxenberg believes that all those who have participated in the United States Armed orces should receive the benefits they deserve. This includes compensation for deadly diseases such as mesothelioma.
If you or someone you love has developed mesothelioma after having contact with asbestos, let us help. It's never too late for a free case evaluation. The form below initiates the process.
