Assistance for Veterans

Do you need to contact Meridian Clinic? 2103 13th St Meridian, MS 39301 Phone: (601) 482-7154.

Learn more about the dangers of asbestos exposure and decide if you should be tested. Read each of the subsequent items for the cardinal characteristics of people who may be at risk for asbestos exposure:
  • Those with breathing problems
  • People with prolonged exposure to asbestos
  • People who think they have had ongoing exposure to asbestos
  • Immediate family members of those who have worked in asbestos-related trades, even if the individual who worked with asbestos has no obvious signs of exposure or breathing problems

Certain illnesses are associated with asbestos exposure: lung cancer, asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), and pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung). The warning signs of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, the tangible signs of asbestos exposure can appear up to 25 years after initial exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.

It is essential to see a doctor if you imagine that you have been exposed to asbestos. Initial testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Further tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Doctors sometimes speak a language unclear to the layman. If you are confused, you can ask your doctor about your status. If you don't understand your doctor, get him to put it in plain words so you can better know your condition. All citizens who have participated in the U.S. Armed Forces should receive the services they deserve. Weitz & Luxenberg is committed to making this happen. This includes compensation for deadly diseases that are caused by inhalation of asbestos, such as mesothelioma.

Coping with lung cancer can be strenuous. Weitz & Luxenberg can help relieve some of the burden by providing you with a free case evaluation. Your first step is to fill out the form below.
