Do you think you're at risk for asbestos exposure? Look at the details below and find out more about this deadly substance. The following is a list of individuals at increased risk of developing an asbestos-related disease:
- People with breathing problems
- Anyone with ongoing exposure to asbestos
- Those who think they have had protracted exposure to asbestos
- Immediate family members of people who have worked in asbestos-related industries, even if the person who worked with asbestos has no visible symptoms or difficulty breathing
Certain illnesses have been linked to asbestos exposure: Asbestosis (a serious, chronic, non cancerous fibrous hardening and scarring of the lungs), mesothelioma (a cancer of the thin membranes lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities and surrounding internal organs), pleural plaque and thickening (scarring of the lining of the lung) and lung cancer. The most commonly known symptoms of asbestos-related diseases are coughing, coughing blood, shortness of breath, chest pain and weight loss. Unfortunately, these symptoms of contact with asbestos can appear up to 25 years after primary exposure. Annual or even semi-annual asbestos detection tests are recommended.
It is essential to seek a medical opinion if you think that you have been exposed to asbestos. The usual mode of testing is an x-ray (side and front view of your chest.) Supplementary tests may include a pulmonary function test, blood work, a CT scan and/or biopsy. Doctors sometimes speak a language that may be unlcear to the layman. Don't fear asking your physician about your circumstance. If you don't completely comprehend your doctor, get him to break it down so can better comprehend. Weitz & Luxenberg is a proponent of the idea that all those who have participated in the U.S. Armed orces should receive the services they deserve. This includes compensation for potentially fatal diseases such as lung cancer.
Did you know there is no time limit for filing an asbestos lawsuit? Weitz & Luxenberg can help you receive compensation regardless of when you were exposed. Simply fill out the form below to begin the process.
