Buffalo Unions to Push for Stronger Workplace Safety Rules
May 10, 2007--On Tuesday, the Buffalo Council held a meeting in
Depew in memory of workers injured and killed on the job, reported the
Buffalo News. The article said about 150 people attended the workplace
safety event, including an AFL-CIO official from Washington, D.C., to draw
attention to the dangers that still lurk in U.S. workplaces.
The issue is
of growing priority to residents there, the newspaper said, citing dispiriting
statistics--that there are more than 5,000 on-the-job deaths annually, according
to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In Western New York, the report
pointed out, OSHA has investigated 38 fatal on-the-job accidents in the past
five years.
