Accutane and Hepatitis
Please note: While Weitz & Luxenberg has provided information about a number of medical and psychiatric side effects associated with the use of Accutane, we do not currently accept hepatitis cases.
We are only able to assist Accutane patients who develop these gastrointestinal diseases: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease.
Hepatitis is a chronic disease caused by a viral infection. Hepatitis is characterized by abdominal pain, fever, an enlarged liver and jaundice.
Some forms of hepatitis show very few of these signs and only present when the longstanding inflammation has led to the replacement of liver cells by connective tissue; the result is cirrhosis. Certain liver function tests can also indicate hepatitis.
A number of presciption drugs have been known to increase the risk to develop hepatitis, including Accutane; Halothane; Methyldopa; Isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin; Phenytoin and valproic acid; Zidovudine; Ketoconazole; Nifedipine; Ibuprofen and indomethacin; Amitriptyline; Amiodarone; Nitrofurantoin; oral contraceptives; and a number of herbal and nutritional supplements.
