In recent news about the cancer cluster study being conducted in the Acreage, homeowners there, once skeptical of the idea of hooking up to Palm Beach County's water pipes, are now moving forward with the idea.
As state health officials study whether a spate of brain and other tumors in the area constitutes a cancer cluster, Acreage homeowners aren't waiting to hear the results.
They have begun to phone the county water utility to speed up a hook up.
The water utility connection, however, may take time.
The Acreage was developed as a rural community with mostly dirt roads, wells and septic tanks, and very large lots.
Despite an estimated high cost for the alternate water source, many residents are fearful the current water may have harmed family members.
For this reason, some are spending between $40 and $80 a month on bottled water until the utility is able to service their area.
